Women's Law Caucus

The UK Women’s Law Caucus was formed in response to the needs of the increasing number of women entering the legal profession. The organization was founded in 1974 and continues to be an active organization throughout the college and community. In fact, the only student organization with a longer history in UK Law is the Student Bar Association.

As WLC approaches its 35th year at UK College of Law, the organization is restructuring and reorganizing. Most imminently, the long time faculty advisor, Carolyn Bratt is retiring at the end of the 2007/08 academic year. Fortunately, Prof. Melynda Price has agreed to serve as the new faculty advisor and has already brought some new ideas to the organization.

The increasing membership of the WLC has been very energetic within the school this year and has some big ideas for the upcoming year as well. During the fall semester, the Women’s Law Caucus has hosted three different campus events including a Breast Cancer Survivor, a panel discussion on Human Trafficking in Kentucky and a noon forum with Carol Jordan, Director of the UK Center for Research on Violence Against Women. The events have been an overwhelming success this year and very well-received. For the spring semester, WLC is attempting to line-up a Powerful Women in Kentucky Law series as well as our annual highlight event the Spring Luncheon.

A large overarching goal for the remainder of this year is to involve alumna in our events. To achieve this, we are attempting to create an email list of the UK Women’s Law Caucus alumna. If you are interested in receiving email communication from WLC, we ask that you that you visit the Alumna Registration link and complete the information. We will send email invitations to the WLC events.
