SPILF
The Student Public Interest Law Foundation (SPILF) is a student organization at UK Law that promotes awareness of and interest in public interest job opportunities among UK Law students. In addition to sponsoring speakers on a variety of public interest topics and maintaining an extensive library of information on public interest careers, SPILF sponsors student summer fellowships that pay students' expenses to work for a public interest/public service organization. While most students select fellowship opportunities in Kentucky, SPILF has supported student fellows both nationally and internationally.
Funding for the SPILF Summer Fellowship Program is provided by a generous annual grant from the Kentucky Bar Foundation and by SPILF fund raising events throughout the school year. The most successful of these is an auction during the Libel Show of items provided by faculty (dinner or a party at a faculty member's home, for example). Each year 15 - 20 UK Law students receive SPILF grants for summer employment in the public interest. The SPILF application requirements and deadlines for summer 2004 will be posted early in the Spring 2004 semester.
