Professor Allison Connelly Recognized by Fayette County Bar Association
University of Kentucky law professor Allison Connelly was recognized on May 1, 2008 by the Fayette County Bar Association with the Citizen Lawyer Award. The award, presented at the annual Law Day celebration, recognizes a member of the Bar whose involvement in governmental, civic, charitable or community activities has demonstrated a sincere desire to maintain and improve the administration of justice, the quality of the legal practice and the quality of life for all residents of Fayette County.
Professor Connelly joined the faculty of UK’s College of Law in 1996 as the first Director of the College’s Legal Clinic. Prior to joining the law school Professor Connelly spent 13 years as a state public defender providing direct representation, including death penalty representation, to needy individuals. She was the first female Kentucky Public Advocate and has over ten published appellate decisions to her credit.
Professor Connelly serves as coach of UK’s College of Law trial teams, one of which finished fifth in the nation in 2003. In February, 2008 both teams from the UK College of Law National Trial Team defeated competition from 26 teams to sweep the Seventh Region Trial Advocacy Tournament. Most recently, Professor Connelly help establish and run a scholarship program for potential law students throughout Kentucky who would not have the opportunity to attend law school without the financial and mentoring support offered through this program (CLEO).
