Black Law Student Association Hosts Free Legal Fair

LEXINGTON, Ky. (November 21, 2006) – The University of Kentucky Black Law Student Association (BLSA) is hosting a free legal fair from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Booker T. Washington Academy.

The BLSA has partnered with Booker T. Washington Academy's Family Resource Center (FRC) and UK College of Law professors to bring over 20 local agencies and law firms to the community that the FRC serves. Attorneys and professionals will be available at stations to provide free information and assistance on various topics, including family and criminal law, juvenile issues, mortgages and first time home buying, estate planning, credit and bankruptcy, personal injury, taxes, child support, Medicare, and immigration.

"It is our hope to reach those who do not have this information readily available, so that they can use the resources to make informed decisions and improve their quality of life," said Valorie Smith, president of UK's BLSA and legal fair chairperson.

The BLSA is committed to community involvement and hosts several events each year to engage and serve the Lexington community. For more information about the UK BLSA and the free legal clinic at Booker T. Washington Academy, contact Valorie Smith.
