For International Students
UK Law welcomes the interest of international students. Students from other countries pay nonresident tuition and are eligible for the same scholarship opportunities as U.S. citizens or resident aliens. However, all other financial aid at the University of Kentucky is through the federally-funded Direct Loan program and is only available to U.S. citizens or resident aliens. UK does not offer any fellowships or other scholarships that would pay all of the expenses of an international student attending law school.
Starting for Fall 2007, and at no charge to the candidate, the LSDAS Service will evaluate the credentials of any applicant who attended undergraduate school outside the U.S. or Canada for UK Law and other schools that have requested that service.
In addition to meeting all requirements for admission, if you are not a U.S. citizen or resident alien you also must provide:
* An affidavit of support from someone who has sufficient funds to support you for the first year of law school, who swears that he or she will support you and provides evidence that he or she has the money available to do so; and
* If English is a second language, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have the TOEFL score sheet mailed to the College of Law admissions office. Under the TOEFL scoring system, you will be considered to have an acceptable grasp of English for law study with a score of at least 650 on the paper-based test or 280 on the computer-based test.
