KLEO & Diversity Awards
In 2002, Chief Justice Joseph Lambert of the Supreme Court of Kentucky proposed, and the Kentucky Legislature adopted, the Kentucky Legal Education Opportunity (KLEO) program. KLEO is an ambitious and concerted effort to increase the number of minority, low income or educationally disadvantaged Kentuckians in Kentucky's state-supported law schools. For each year that funding is available in the state budget, five Kentucky residents will be selected from UK Law's entering class to become KLEO fellows. Each KLEO fellow receives a $5,000 grant for each year of law school that they are eligible to participate in the program.
In awarding KLEO fellowships, the Scholarships and Honors Committee will consider the information you have included in your admissions application. You may attach a statement to your application for admission that includes any additional information you believe to be relevant to your consideration for the KLEO program, including a description of why you fit into the category of “minority, low-income or educationally disadvantaged.”
KLEO awards will be made on a rolling basis. All UK Law KLEO grants for fall 2008 will be awarded by no later than April 1, 2008.
UK Law Diversity Scholarships
In addition to awarding five KLEO grants, the College of Law also awards some of its scholarship funds on the basis of low-income status, educational disadvantage, minority status or other contributions to diversity. In making diversity awards, the Scholarships and Honors Committee will consider the information you have included in your admissions application. You may attach a statement to your application for admission that includes any additional information you believe to be relevant to your consideration for diversity scholarships.
If you are a Kentucky resident for tuition purposes, you will be considered for both the UK Law Diversity Scholarships and the KLEO program.
