Katherine A. Adams is an Associate General Counsel in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky. She has more than twenty-five years of legal experience including eighteen years in the university environment.
At UK, Ms. Adams advises the University, including its faculty and staff, in all areas related to research, including grants and contracts; intellectual property (patents, copyrights, and trademarks); research compliance; research misconduct; a wide variety of contracts associated with research; and complex business agreements particularly those with intellectual property or research ties. Ms. Adams also handles legal issues associated with the Robinson Forest.
Ms. Adams sits on a variety of research-related committees, including: Intellectual Property Committee; Research Conflict of Interest Committee; Research Advisory Committee; the IACUCs and IRBs.
Immediately prior to joining UK, Ms. Adams was a Corporate Attorney for Long John Silvers, Inc. where she handled complex business agreements, intellectual property issues, and managed the company’s national business litigation including antitrust and employment law claims. Previously, she worked for Jackson & Kelly in its Lexington office. Her practice included a variety of commercial and corporate transactions, with substantial mineral law, transactional law, state and federal litigation practice, and complex bankruptcy practice.
Ms. Adams was born and raised in Henry County, Kentucky. She received a B.S. in Dietetics with high distinction from the University of Kentucky, and practiced as a registered dietitian. She subsequently graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law with distinction and was inducted to the Order of the Coif. She was a member of the Kentucky Law Journal where she authored the annual Torts Survey.
She is married to Bradford Walton, also a UK alumni and structural engineer. They and their daughter Grace live in Lexington.
