T. Lynn Williamson is Deputy General Counsel in the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Kentucky.  He has been a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and American Bar Association for almost 40 years.  He has been employed at the University in various positions for 40 years.  

Mr. Williamson joined the Office of Legal Counsel in 2004 and advises the University in specific areas such as education law, student affairs law, judicial processes, athletics law, constitutional law, interpretation of regulations and policies, contracts, procurement, employment and labor law, the Kentucky Open Records Act and other, general areas of the law as needed.  Mr. Williamson interprets the University’s alcohol policy and gives approval for alcohol use on University property.  Mr. Williamson serves as the Chair of the University Ethics Committee and issues official Ethics Opinions for the Ethics Committee.  Mr. Williamson also serves on the GR/AR Revisions Committee and the Ethics and Risk Management Committee.

Mr. Williamson was born and raised in Fulton, KY.  He holds Bachelor of Arts (English, 1968) and Juris Doctor (Law, 1974) degrees from the University of Kentucky.  He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.  He was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam.

Mr. Williamson began his professional career with the University of Kentucky in 1973, having served for eight years in the Student Affairs Division (Assistant Dean of Students, Associate Dean of Students and Acting Dean of Students). From the fall of 1983 until 1994, he served as Administrator for Personnel Policy and Procedure and was responsible for writing the Human Resources Policies and Procedures.  Between 1994 and 1999, he served as Associate Director of Human Resource Services. From October 1999 through February 2004, he served as Director for Human Resources; his responsibility included the administration of the University’s Human Resources functions.   In 1997, he served as Acting Vice President for University Relations.   Twice during his career at UK, he conducted twelve month internal investigations into allegations of violations of NCAA rules.

During his career at UK, Mr. Williamson served as Hearing Officer for various University student and employee appeals processes, Chair of the Personnel Council, Chair of the Wage and Salary Committee, Chair of the Health Insurance Committee, and Member of the President’s Executive Committee, Treasurer and President of the UK Boone Faculty Club and today serves on the Boone Center Board of Directors.  He also served as Coordinator of the University’s Commencement Ceremony for many years. 

In an extracurricular capacity, Williamson has served as Advisor to the University’s Cheerleading Program since the 1977-78 season.  Under Williamson’s leadership, the Kentucky Cheer Program placed in the top ten in Universal Cheerleaders Association’s National College Cheerleading Championships for 27 consecutive years, having won UCA’s National Championship in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012.  The squad has also placed second five times.  In athletic and cheerleading circles, the Kentucky Cheer Program is recognized as one of the top college cheer programs in the nation.  Williamson served as a founding board member (1988) of the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA) and continued to serve on the Board.  He served on AACCA’s National Consortium on Safety.  Numerous articles on cheerleading matters by Mr. Williamson have been published in sports and cheerleading publications.  He has often made presentations on cheerleading topics at conferences, camps, and state and national meetings.  As an attorney, he often speaks on risk management and the liability aspects of cheerleading.
