Audio Broadcast

Central Kentucky Radio Eye broadcasts on a sub-carrier (low-powered side-band) frequency of the University of Kentucky radio station WUKY. The closed circuit broadcast serves a potential audience of over 3,000 listeners. The broadcast can be heard in Central Kentucky (in an approximate 80 mile radius) from Owenton in the north to Berea in the south, and from Bardstown in the west to Beattyville in the east.

Eligible listeners hear the 24-hour radio broadcast free of charge on special in-home, pre-tuned radios which are loaned to them free of charge for as long as they need or want the service. However, CKRE is a non-profit organization, and we request a small, one-time $25 user fee to help offset our costs. (The fee may be waived if this presents a problem for eligible listeners.)

CKRE's 24-hour radio broadcast can also be heard around the clock, seven days a week, at all patients' bedsides in Central Baptist Hospital on their in-house TV system.

Television Broadcast - CKRE on Local Cable TV (Library Channel 20)

Six mornings a week, CKRE's two hour broadcast of the Lexington Herald-Leader is carried live on Library Channel 20 on Lexington Insight Cable TV. This broadcast is made available thanks to the Lexington Public Library and through funding from Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky.

CKRE's TV broadcast of the Herald-Leader is provided for the benefit of anyone blind, visually impaired or physically handicapped (including anyone with reading impairments such as dyslexia, foreign language, illiteracy, etc.) in Lexington, Fayette County and parts of Jessamine County - and is freely available to any of the 80,000 subscribers on Lexington Insight Cable TV.
