Kevin Kiernan is T. Marshall Hahn Sr. Professor of Arts and Sciences. His research
and scholarly publications have in recent years focused on image-based electronic
editions of Old English texts, which are under development in a collaboratory
for Research in Computing for Humanities (http://www.rch.uky.edu).
Current projects include the "Digital Atheneum: new techniques for restoring,
accessing, and editing humanities collections," supported by NSF, IBM,
and the British Library; "Alfred the Great's Old English version of Boethius's
Consolation of Philosophy," supported by the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the British Library, and the Bodleian Library, Oxford; and "The
ARCHway Project: Architecture for Research in Computing for Humanities, through
research, teaching, and learning."
Kiernan's image-based edition, the Electronic Beowulf, won the 2001 Beatrice
White Prize (http://www.le.ac.uk/engassoc/bw.html)
from the English Association
(United Kingdom).
