How do we provide reference help?
The Library Link staff can provide reference help in a variety of ways. Patrons are always welcome to simply drop in with quick (or not so quick) questions regarding library or database use, research strategies, or other library-related questions. All inquiries are welcome. Examples of common questions include: help needed with using our catalog (InfoKat), finding statistics, finding sources, or choosing and using appropriate databases. Sometimes patrons just need help finding a place to start a particular project with the dizzying array of research materials now available. Although drop-ins are always welcome, if a client has a particularly complex question, it is recommended that he or she make an appointment for a research consultation. When this is done, the question can be paired with a subject expert who will take time to look into the issue in order to find appropriate materials and come up with strategies for researching it. Consultations can be held in P.O.T. 108 or arrangements can be made to meet with faculty, staff, or graduate students in their P.O.T. offices.
