Basement - the Hub @ WT's
Also see a floor map of the Basement.
The basement received a major renovation in the spring of 2007 and is now home to the Hub @ WT's, UK’s new Information Commons.
Library and IT Help Desks (Rotunda)
In the center of the rotunda are the Library and Information Technology (IT) Help Desks where students can receive help with library research or technology issues.
Grub @ the Hub (Core 2)
In Core 2 of the Hub, there are vending machines with soft drinks, coffee, water. sandwiches, and snacks; a change machine for $1 and $5 bills is also available. A large-screen television featuring CNN and other broadcasting is mounted on the wall in this area.
Student Computing Services (East Wing)
The east wing of the Hub houses Student Computing Services, which offers access to basic software applications such as Microsoft Office as well as to computer-aided design applications. UK students can use the more than 100 computers and four scanners with their Link Blue (U-Connect) login. The consultants on duty at the service desk can help students establish a Link Blue account.
The service desk is in the center of the room in the SCS Lab. To either side of the service desk are computer classrooms. These rooms are used by faculty to provide instruction to their students. Next to the service desk is a color printer and two combined black and white printer/photocopiers, which, like all Young Library printers, can be used to retrieve print jobs sent from anywhere in the building. A DART machine for adding money to your Plus Account card or Wildcard is found in the center of these machines.
Audio Visual Services (South Wing)
Audio Visual Services is located in the South Wing of the Hub in the Lexmark Room. Immediately inside the door to the right are Windows computers. To the left is the new Mac Lab.
To the left of the main room there will soon be multimedia editing stations. To the right are small group viewing rooms where groups of students can view or listen to multimedia material. Currently under construction on the far right and left are two presentation practice rooms where students will be able to digitally record and then view their presenations. The large desk at the back of the room is the Media Library Desk. From behind this desk, the Audio Visual Services staff can transmit audio visual materials to the individual workstations, the group viewing rooms, the Audio Visual classrooms, the auditorium, and group study rooms throughout the library. At this desk, patrons may borrow DVDs and videotapes, and students may borrow laptop computers for use within the building.
Audio Visual Services Classroom (West Wing)
The Audio Visual classroom, B-108A in the west wing of the Hub, is equipped with 24 computer workstations. There is also a distance learning classroom in B-110.
Group Study Areas (All Wings)
The Hub @ WT’s has group study areas with movable furniture. Wooden group study carrels are equipped with desktop computers, rolling whiteboards, and wheeled chairs. There are also portable tables and whiteboard room dividers.
Student Memorial Room (Rotunda)
At the suggestion of the University of Kentucky Student Government Association, the central room of the basement, where the Help and IT Information Help Desks are located, is dedicated to the memory of those students who have died while attending the University of Kentucky.
