Let me know what you'd like reserved for your course.  I require two weeks for preparing your reserves, maybe longer if I have to order books or scan pages/purchase copyright clearance.  If my back-log is big, I'll try to at least get up your first few weeks of readings.

Permanent reserves:  books / videos / EDP 642

How do I get to my e-reserves?  Click the link for your course and then click a couple of times for your e-reserves.  E-reserves in InfoKat are protected by your e-reserves ID and password.  Only your professor can give you that ID and password, not the library staff.  This is not the same as your LinkBlue ID and password.  However, sometimes some of the links in your e-reserves list might require the LinkBlue combo for making access.

If your readings are in Blackboard, then go to your Blackboard course.  Often, yes, you'll have to give your LinkBlue ID and password to get to articles in Blackboard.

Here are the textbooks on order/available from the University bookstore.  For some of them I'll try to get a library copy.  Textbooks in library collections are often a set-up for disappointment, alas.  The books are so often stolen or lost or checked-out that many readers are left disappointed.  But I'll try to get some for the library.  I invite professors to place their personal copies of textbooks on library reserve.

Faculty:  I can put reserve items into your Blackboard shell.  You just need to get me added as a TA in your shell.  Send the Blackboard request to accounts@lsv.uky.edu and give them my ID:  bcarring.  Then let me know what you'd like added to your shell.   I've tried adding to the "Content Collection" but I'm favoring simply using the Course Documents in your regular shell.  I'm relabeling that section Library Sources or something similar.  How about that?

You, too, can put library links into your e-mails and web pages!
Designating URLs for Off-Campus Access
Any link to a product that requires the EZProxy server for off-campus use will need the following url prefix placed in front of it:

http://ezproxy.uky.edu/login?url=

Immediately after the equals sign "=" will come the complete url for the desired electronic resource. For example, the regular link to "JSTOR" is:

http://www.jstor.org/

To get the EZProxy server to authenticate and provide access the link should be changed to:

http://ezproxy.uky.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/

All links in the UK Libraries web pages, catalog, Ejournals databases, etc. contain this ezproxy prefix. If you have personal links to library resources (e.g., through personal bookmarks, course web pages, departmental web pages, etc.) you must include the ezproxy prefix at the beginning of your links or these resources will not be accessible off-campus.

For your consideration:  the Citation Linker in our E-journals list.  You can copy the URL of the window it makes.  The Citation Linker will route off-campus users through the proxy, so don't add the proxy prefix to any URLs that it makes.  The Citation Linker will try to give all possible electronic options.

Scanned items:  The copyright laws are quite strict.  We aim to abide by the Fair Use permissions.  I try to limit what I scan to about a dozen items per course. To exceed that limit your library might have to pay royalties through the Copyright Clearance Center, and that can be very expensive.  The expense would come from the library's book budget.   The University of Georgia makes a good explanation of copyright law.  Thank you, Bulldogs!

There is no limit to linking to articles available already in our officially licensed databases.  There is no limit to reserving paper items:  books, bound or unbound journals, personal copies, etc.

I'm busy working on listing your reserved items.  Keep checking on my progress.  I'll try to do the first few readings first, then wrap-up.   In the past we've asked for 3 weeks for the preparation, but I can usually prepare your course pack in a week or two.  Thank you very kindly for your patience.

Here are the class visits that I have scheduled.  I'd be pleased to come your class and give a quick demo of the library website and services.

None scheduled at this time / won't you invite me for a visit?

Starting in 2010 the Library will be measuring information literacy.  This literacy is defined as "The ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively and responsibly use and share that information for the problem at hand."  - Adopted from The National Forum on Information Literacy.  Info. Lit. measurements from the AACU VALUE rubrics.  (The SACS compliance audit –to see if we’re doing what they require--will  take place in 2011.)

Here are the SACS requirements (Principles of Accreditation):
