The Sanborn map collection, located in the Map Collection on the second floor of the King Building in the Science Library, contains a uniform series of large-scale, detailed maps of Lexington (1886-1970) and other Kentucky cities. Block by block, these maps illustrate in outline form the site, size, shape and construction materials of all structures in the mapped areas. They provide a method of dating the original construction and changes over time to a specific site and taken as a whole show growth of the urban area over time.

The University of Kentucky Special Collections Library houses the University's collection of Kentucky materials. Special Collections uses a variety of finding aids; please consult a staff member in Special Collections for the best way to retrieve information on your topic.
