Each year the MLK Cultural Center provides leadership and program direction to the annual observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. From its beginnings in 1974, the Lexington observance of the MLK Holiday has evolved to become one of the highlights in the annual cultural calendar of central Kentucky. It represents the best in the “town-gown” ideal, enjoying support and participation from businesses, civic organizations, schools, churches and individual citizens from across the entire region. It is well known for its high quality programming and its long record of presenting outstanding speakers of national and international renown. Past speakers include the late Ossie Davis, Congressman Ron Dellums, Susan Taylor, Dr. C.T. Vivian, Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski and many, many more.
