Student Involvement

The cultural center is more than a physical space. It is a consciousness of multicultural students that works closely together to make the university's Dream and the Challenge a reality. Students have the opportunity to work, volunteer, host events, work in program committees and much more. Below are a few of the opportunities that are available for student involvement.

Cultural Center Players


Are a collective of a highly respected and reputable students devoted to presenting thought-provoking subject matter related to the African American experience. Each performance is designed to generate self-approval and social awareness in the African American community.

The Vine Book Club


The members of the book club are interested in reading a variety of areas including but not limited to relationships, political science, poetry, history, fiction and more as they relate to the African American experience. The club is a joint venture with the Iota Sigma chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Ngoma Dance


Ngoma dance looks to promote an appreciation for cultural as well as contemporary dance. Including but not limited to African, Jazz, Hip Hop, Salsa & Merengue.

Artist In Residence


The Program involves a Master's level student from the College of Fine Arts. Projects vary from art exhibits, ceramic work, sculpture and others. For more information or to participate in a workshop please contact us via email by selecting the program name above.

Black Student Union


The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center works closely with the Black Student Union and with other independent student governed campus organizations, to assess the pulse of the campus population and to co-sponsor mutually beneficial programs.

Latino American Student Organization


The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center works closely with the Latino American Student Organization and with other independent student governed campus organization, to assess the pulse of the campus population and to co-sponsor mutually beneficial programs.
