Annual

F.L.O.W. Future Leaders Organizational Workshops


This annual student leadership conference is centered on developing student organizational leadership skills. Practical workshops for treasurers and secretaries are part of the menu as well as philosophical workshops like "what does it men to be a leader", "cross cultural collaborations" and "how not to sink your own ship". The conference is open to all college students from across the state as well as high school students.

Real Fathers Real Men of Lexington Scholarship Luncheon


This community organization program is spearheaded by the Eta Alpha Sigma Alumni chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. The fraternity seeks to recognize African American male role models who have distinguished themselves through community service or careers. The University of Kentucky's Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center provides logistical support and serves as a resource for the fraternity.

Caribbean Week


This multicultural and multiethnic celebration highlights Caribbean Heritage. It serves as an example of the rich and diverse heritage of the Caribbean. University and community members are exposed to music, film, history, dance and other expressions of Caribbean culture. Please see our calendar of events.

Latino Heritage Month


The Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Center observes the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration which begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries-Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.

The Word


This annual program brings together writers of poetry with the musical talents of local and regional acts.

Kwanzaa


As an African American and Pan-African holiday celebrated by millions throughout the world African community, Kwanzaa brings a cultural message which speaks to the best of what it means to be African and human in the fullest sense. Our annual celebration of is held in collaboration with the Black Student Union each December.

African American History Month


African American History Month is celebrated each February. The theme is adopted from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History which has set the national theme each year since 1926. The 2006 theme is "Celebrating Community: A Tribute to Black Fraternal, Social, and Civic Institutions."

I-75 Collaborative


This is a joint venture between the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University and Berea College that aims at sharing and supporting co-curricular programming such as writing and leadership conferences, lectures, musical programs, and other artistic events.
