- Clinical Practice Resources
- AEGIS
AIDS Educational Global Information Service. A large HIV knowledgebase that includes the latest news on HIV and AIDS from major wireservices and newspapers as well as a library of AIDS resources.
- "Bad Bug Book"
Also known as the "Foodborne Pathogenic Microorganisms and Natural Toxins 1992," put out by the FDA's Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition. Provides basic facts regarding foodborne pathogenic microorganisms and natural toxins. Recent articles from Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports have been added to selected chapters to update the handbook with information on later outbreaks or incidents of foodborne disease.
- Health Law Resources
Intended as a resource for health care practitioners, professionals or anyone interested in learning more about the dynamic field of health care law. Includes Medicare/Medicaid, Privacy, Fraud and Abuse, Bioethics, and Telemedicine.
- Health Services Technology Assessment Text (HSTAT)
Includes the full text of the AHCPR practice guidelines, AHCPR technology assessments and reviews, NIH Consensus Development Statements, and NIH clinical research studies.
- Healthy People 2000
The national prevention initiative to improve the health of all Americans. Take a look at the statistics on the midcourse reviews of the objectives of Healthy People 2000.
- Merck Manual
A free, online version of the Merck Manual complete with a table of contents, index, and numerous hyperlinks. Registration is required, but there are no fees or passwords.
- Law and the Physician: A Practical GuideA full text, searchable electronic textbook (print source published by Little Brown).
- MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report)
A weekly report prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that contains statistical data on notifiable diseases. Identical to the print version. Requires the Adobe Acrobat software to view.
- NIH Clinical Alerts
Clinical alerts are intended to quickly disseminate new information that affects patient morbidity and mortality. Alerts contain information from NIH-funded studies only.
- Virtual Hospital
The University of Iowa's digital library that provides patient care support
and distance learning to practicing physicians and other healthcare
professionals. Its Iowa Health Book provides information to the general
public on a variety of health issues.
- WebMedLit
Scans the web each night for updates to medical journals. All links point back to the original articles or abstracts at the publishers' web sites. In general, the sources followed must provide at least some abstracts to the full-text articles; sites providing only tables of contents are not tracked.
