Faculty, residents, students and staff from the UK Medical Campus can now
gain easy, convenient and free access to timely, critical information about
recently published medical books. With 3,000 new health sciences books
published each year, it is a daunting task to keep up with the book
literature in you area. But now, the library can deliver to your office a unique resource to evaluate new
books in your areas of interest.
Doody's Review Service, available through our Information Resources page,
gives you access to an innovative service that provides invaluable
information - including timely peer reviews - on newly published medical
books. The service consists of two parts. The first is a weekly e-mail
newsletter providing you with news and reviews about books in your specialty
areas. The second is 24-hour access to a database of more than 8,000 titles
and 4,500 expert reviews that is updated weekly with, on average,
information on 50 new books with reviews of 30 of the titles. The hallmark
of this service is timeliness, with reviews that are published as soon as 10
weeks after the books are published.
To access this service, library patrons may go to the Doody's Review Service, site and visit the "Guest Area," where you will find general information about the service and a registration form. Once registered, the subscriber will receive a weekly electronic newsletter, the MD Consult Weekly Book Review Bulletin, and a unique ID that will be the subscriber's key to the comprehensive book database.
If you have trouble filling out the registration form in the "Guest Area" on the MD Consult site, Cindy
Cline of the Medical Center Library is available for assistance. Email her at
mclcindy@pop.uky.edu or phone 323-6781.
