Fossils in the Fairview Formation

Location:

                 -Fossils were located in Kenton County, KY in the city of Independence, along the new road cut on KY 17.


Information::

                         -The type section of the Fairview Formation is located in Fairview Heights, in Cincinnati Ohio.

                    -The average thickness of the Fairview Formation is over 100 ft. thick

                    -The Fairview Formation consists of about 55% limestone and 45% shale and siltstone

                         -The limestone is fine grained and in parts silty or clayey.

                     -The shale is calcitic and silty and is medium gray 

                     -The Formation is resistant to weathering and forms shaley slopes with numerous limestone benches throughout

                         -Phylum Brachiopoda          

                    -Phylum Bryozoa                                 

                    -Phylum Echinodermata                                 

                    -Phylum Arthropoda                               

                         -Phylum Mollusca                             

                          -Unknowns
