Focus Watershed: Clark's Run of the Dix River

Portions of Clark's Run have been found to be impaired by the Kentucky Division of Water, as well as by Kentucky River Watershed Watch samplers. This local non-profit, known as CREEC, was formed in 2005 to address water quality impairments, as well as provide watershed education to the community and pursue the extension of an existing creekside, recreational trail. This grant project includes four major elements: community educational programs, creation of a model riparian zone, promotion of further improvement to the creek's riparian zone, and eradication of invasive plants in the riparian zone. These efforts are expected to increase CREEC's visibility and fund-raising capacity, thereby increasing its overall effectiveness in watershed improvements.
