Focus Watershed: Muddy Creek of Kentucky River

This organization planned to purchase a living stream aquarium. This type of aquarium enables the display of a local, living, flowing stream environment using locally acquired stream substrate, macroinvertebrates and fishes. The stream aquarium will compliment demonstration tools already available with Madison County's Watershed Education Trailer, which is available to assist local educators in teaching about the connections between land use, water quality and stream life.

Potential venues for the aquarium include the Bluegrass Army Depot, Madison County Extension Office, Madison County Public Library and Madison County fair.

The stream aquarium and education trailer are part of a larger effort to increase public awareness about the cause and effect of land use activities on stream conditions and stream life within the Muddy Creek watershed, with the eventual hope of de-listing the stream as an impaired waterway by the Kentucky Division of Water's 303(d) report.
