See the 2004-05 Madison Southern High School Grant Final Report Focus Watershed: Muddy Creek of the Kentucky River Multiple partners in the Muddy Creek watershed are working together with the overall goals of improving public awareness of Muddy's Creek's water quality and conducting creek improvement activities. Improvement efforts have included installing six miles of fencing to exclude cattle from the creek; planting 35,000 tree seedlings in the creek's riparian zone; and regular sampling of 12-15 sites along the creek. Through KRA watershed grant funding, Madison Southern High School will purchase hip wader boots needed for community volunteers to sample water quality, conduct educational training, and install best management practices. They will also install signs identifying Muddy Creek water quality monitoring site locations. These signs will serve as a highly visible way to generate interest in the quality of the creek and hopefully, bring about subsequent education of area residents. |
