The Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute and the Kentucky River Authority have selected six subwatersheds of the Kentucky River Basin for focused management efforts. Three of these watersheds were selected as a result of the prioritization process of the Kentucky Watershed Management Framework, and three were selected based on existing impairments and local interest. These priority watersheds include:

Clarks Run (Boyle County)

Lower Eagle Creek (Carroll, Gallatin, Grant and Owen Counties)*

Muddy Creek (Madison County)

Upper North Fork Kentucky River region (primarily Letcher County)

Red River (Estill, Powell and Wolfe Counties)*

South Elkhorn Creek (Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Scott and Woodford Counties)*
