Focus Watershed: Wolf Run of Town Branch

Wolf Run is a tributary of South Elkhorn Creek, a typical urban watershed suffering from siltation, sanitary sewer overflow, and nonpoint source runoff from parking lots. This grant project is designed to encourage action by residents and businesses to reduce nutrient pollution sources along the stream. These actions will complement the recommendations included in the nutrient TMDL being developed for the South Elkhorn watershed, as well as the Lexington-Fayette County Urban Government's stormwater management program. Specifically, the project will include the identification of a steering committee, an education campaign related to proper lawn care practices, riparian zone improvement, and educational outreach through a website and mailings. The Friends of Wolf Run will work with multiple partners in generating participation in the project, including the area neighborhood associations.
