By Laws | Volunteer ABOUT US Who Are We? In 1991, the Women’s Forum was created to address issues concerning Women employees at UK in response to the 1990 Ad Hoc Report on the Status of Women at UK. The
Women’s Forum Board, effective with the 2006-08 election, consists of a total of 20 individuals: 18 elected Board members, the past chair and the current chair. The Women’s Forum Board puts out a call for nominations every year to elect nine new board members . Any UK full-time regular employee, faculty or staff, may be nominated to the UK Women’s Forum Board. The nine nominees with the most votes in a campus-wide election will then serve a two-year term on the Board. If you would like to nominate yourself or a fellow UK employee to the UK Women’s Forum Board, please watch here for more information. All full-time regular faculty and staff are eligible to serve. Elections will be taking place in May 2008. Click for Nomination Form and Information. The following people have chaired the UK Women’s Forum: 1991-92

| What Does the Women's Forum Do? The Women’s Forum has been instrumental in creating and obtaining support for the annual Staff Appreciation Day. This event is a huge undertaking and requires the volunteer services of more than just the Board members. What started as a small event held in the grand ballroom of the Student Center has turned into a gala event serving over 4,500 staff. In 2004-2005, the Women’s Forum hosted the 2005 Faculty Board of Trustee open forums, Staff Appreciation Day, the Sarah Bennett Holmes award luncheon, and seven brown-bag safety sessions. The chair of the Women’s Forum Board sits on the President's Commission on Women and is an ex-oficio member of the UK Staff Senate. An
important focus of the Women’s Forum Board is Community Service. For
the past five years, the Women’s Forum has sponsored a team to
participate in the Lexington Race for Cure to help raise money for
Breast Cancer Research. In the spring of 2003, the Women’s Forum
participated in the Spring Walk Against Child Abuse sponsored by the
College of Education and the UK Relay for Life sponsored by The
American Cancer Society. |
