Plaque Unveiling Honors Dean Holmes

Nearly 50 descendants of one of UK’s most revered administrators visited campus Oct. 28 to pay tribute to their ancestor, Sarah Bennett Holmes. As UK Dean of Women from 1942 through 1957, she championed the rights of women and inspired young women to pursue their dreams. Since 1994, the annual Sarah Bennett Holmes Award has been bestowed upon female employees who have achieved professional and personal success while promoting the growth and well-being of all women. Family and friends attended the unveiling of a special plaque that honors Dean Holmes as well as the memorable recipients of the award named in her honor. The plaque, which hangs near the Lexmark Room in the Main Building, features the engraved portraits of Dean Holmes and every winner of the Holmes award.
