Prior to joining the P-12 Math and Science Outreach (P12MSO) unit of PIMSER as a Regional Teacher Partner, Susan was a high school biology teacher for 27 years. She is certified in grades 7-12 biology with a master's degree in secondary education with an emphasis in biology. During her career, she taught at Pikeville High School, Belfry High School and Prestonsburg High School. She retired in May 2010 from the Pikeville Independent School District. During the last five years of her teaching career, she participated in the Science Leadership Support Network through P12MSO and is now a facilitator for the MSP-funded project.

Susan is currently in her second year as a Regional Teacher Partner, where she plans and facilitates professional development opportunities for K-16 educators. Her background as a high school biology teacher, combined with her experience planning and implementing high-quality learning experiences and a balanced assessment system for her students, enables her to bring a real-life approach to providing professional development.
