ROBERT E. MILLER ELECTED UK ALUMNI ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT

In addition to being past president of the Clark County, Ky., UK Alumni Club and past president of the Winchester, Ky., Chamber of Commerce, Miller has served several terms on the national board of directors of the UK Alumni Association.

June 21, 1999 -- (Lexington, Ky.) – Robert E. Miller of Winchester, Ky., has been elected the new president of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association for the 1999-2000 fiscal year. Miller succeeds Robert E. Pickard of Brentwood, Tenn.

David L. Shelton of Marietta, Ga., is the new president-elect and Ann Brand Haney of Nancy, Ky. is the new treasurer. Elections were held at the association’s annual summer workshop in Ashland, Ky.

Miller is vice president of communications and governmental affairs at East Kentucky Power Cooperative, responsible for all member, corporate and environmental communications, as well as governmental affairs. In addition to being past president of the Clark County UK Alumni Club and past president of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, he has served several terms on the national board of directors of the UK Alumni Association. He majored in communications at UK.

Shelton is a financial consultant and chief financial officer of both TAP USA, an electronics manufacturer, and Star 1 Inc., a fast food franchisee.

Haney has worked in sales and marketing at Appledale Farm for almost 30 years and is executive director of the Pulaski County Literacy Council.

The Alumni Association also presented Alumni Service Awards to Donald L. Armstrong, ’53, retired from the Division of Disaster and Emergency Services in Frankfort; Kathleen DeBoer, ’89, an associate director of UK Athletics; Liz Howard Demoran, ’68, ’73, an associate director of UK Alumni Affairs; and James E. Humphrey, ’53, ’54, retired civil engineer and volunteer project manager for the King Alumni House renovation.

The UK Alumni Association has more than 29,000 members, supporting member activities and academic excellence at UK by providing student scholarships and faculty awards.
