NEW GAINES FELLOWS ANNOUNCED

March 22, 1999 -- (Lexington, Ky.) -- The University of Kentucky Gaines Center for the Humanities has announced its new class of Gaines Fellows. The 12 sophomores each will receive a $5,000 fellowship.

The new Gaines Fellows are George H. Argo III of Cynthiana, Amanda D. Chiles of Lexington, Johnathan D. Daugherty of Central City, John Eifler of Louisville, Rebecca D. Greene of Sandy Hook, Laura Marschner of Villa Hills, Glenn Rudolph of Georgetown, Amy E. Shelton of Louisville, Kelley Ann Shields of Owensboro, Brittany A. Strobel of Louisville, Kristina Talbert of Henderson and James J. Varellas III of Lexington.

Gaines Fellows participate in humanities seminars during their junior and senior year and write a senior thesis. John and Joan Gaines of Lexington established the Gaines Center in 1984 as a place to foster the undergraduate study of the humanities.
