May 3, 1999 -- (Lexington, Ky.) -- The Governor's Initiative on
Early Childhood Development will hold a community forum at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the
Taylor Education Building's first-floor auditorium at the University of Kentucky. The
forum will be moderated by Nicki Patton, volunteer adviser to the Governor's Office of
Early Childhood Development and daughter of Gov. Paul Patton. The forum is
seeking comments on four areas:
- What is working well and should be explored in future planning? List contacts and
resources if available.
- What gaps exist for young families and children in this area? Please provide examples of
how families or children are affected by these gaps.
- What solutions should be considered for these gaps? What kinds of support are needed for
these solutions to be effective?
- In the best of all worlds for families and children, what programs, services or ideas
would assist adults in raising healthy and productive children?
Responses to these questions may be submitted prior to the forum by those who are
unable to attend by faxing Ann Garrity at 606-323-1046 or by e-mailing her at garrity@pop.uky.edu.
