Kentucky art Professor Gary Bibbs' students think big, and you can see just how big if you
attend the eighth annual "Open Studio" Friday, Dec. 3, at UK's Reynolds Building
on Scott Street. About 50 to 100 UK students and faculty members will open their studios
in this huge former tobacco warehouse from 6 to 10 p.m.
No admission will be charged to attend the event, but a contribution of $3 to the Art
Department is suggested. Most of the artwork on exhibit will be for sale.
Professor Bibbs said visitors will see artworks created in many media including metal,
with a few pieces standing more than 10 feet tall. Other work utilizes paint, photographs,
plaster casts, ink printing and wood.
Part of the event is a juried art competition for the students. The resulting art
exhibit is named for the late Carey Ellis who taught art at UK and was a well-known local
patron of the arts. A Dean's Award for Best of Show also will be presented.
Members of the UK Art Graduate Student Association under the direction of graduate
students Gerry Masse and Brad Connell are preparing the exhibit.
