Oct. 5, 1999 – (Lexington, Ky.) –  In a year in which the University of Kentucky is paying tribute to its desegregation and the courageous people who led the way, homecoming 1999 will feature "Solid Gold: Celebrating Memories that Shine."

A highlight of this year's activities will be the annual homecoming parade on Friday, Oct. 15. The grand marshal of the parade will be Lyman M. Johnson, son of Lyman T. Johnson. The elder Johnson's 1949 lawsuit against the state won the right for African-American graduate students to study at UK and set the stage for the fall of desegregation in Kentucky.

Notable in this year's homecoming activities will be a change in the parade route. This year's route will be the reverse of previous years', beginning at Commonwealth Stadium and ending at Stoll Field. The Solid Gold Pep Rally, with bands, activities and special guests, will carry the fun through until the doors open for the annual basketball Wildcats' Midnight Madness, also on Oct. 15.
