African-American feminist scholar and author Barbara Smith will give a presentation on
social justice and change Monday, Oct. 11, at the University of Kentucky. As
a critic, teacher, activist, lecturer and publisher, Smith was among the first to define
the African-American women's literary tradition and perpetuate black women's studies and
black feminism in the United States. Her work has brought her much acclaim and makes her a
sought-after speaker on many social issues, especially racism and bigotry.
