The deadline for nominations
for the 2000 Sullivan Medallions is 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 22.

10, 2000 (Lexington, Ky.) The Sullivan
Awards Committee is now accepting nominations for candidates for the Sullivan Medallions,
considered the University of Kentucky's most cherished awards. The
medallions will be presented during the 1999-2000 commencement exercises on Sunday, May 7,
2000, in Memorial Coliseum.
The Sullivan Medallions are presented in three categories:
- One undergraduate woman of the graduating class, here designated as
August 1999, December 1999 or May 2000;
- One undergraduate man of the graduating class, with the same
designation;
- One other person who is not a student of the university.
Nominations should follow the criteria set forth in the agreement
between the New York Southern Society and the University of Kentucky: "in the
selection of the recipients, nothing shall be considered except the possession of such
characteristics of heart, mind and conduct as evince a spirit of love for and helpfulness
to other men and women." In addition, the non-student candidate must have a
connection with the university as an employee, alumnus/alumna or friend.
Nominations can be offered by university administrators, faculty,
staff, students, alumni and friends. Nominators can submit as many individuals in
each category as are considered worthy of this recognition.
Written nominations should include the following information:
- The nominee's name, address, phone number and e-mail address if
available
- The nominator's name, address, phone number and e-mail address if
available
- A brief description and evaluation of the nominee's
"characteristics of heart, mind and conduct as evince a spirit of love and
helpfulness to other men and women." This description should give specific
details on how the nominee's actions have affected the lives of others. This item
also should indicate the individual's connection to the university. Letters of
support of the nomination are welcome.
- A description by the nominator of how he or she has known the
nominee.
Nomination forms also may be obtained by calling Mary Gladden at
(606)257-1624. Nominations should be submitted to Melody Noland, chair of the 2000
Sullivan Awards Committee, University of Kentucky, Department of Kinesiology and Health
Promotion, 202 Seaton Building, Lexington, Ky. 40506-0219.
