Mingst, recognized worldwide
as a scholar in international relations theory, has published six books and performs
research that spans practical and theoretical work.

of Kentucky political science professor Karen A. Mingst will present the UK College of
Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the
Singletary Center for the Arts. Mingst is this years Distinguished Professor, the
highest professional recognition bestowed by the UK College of Arts and Sciences. Mingst
is recognized worldwide as a scholar in international relations theory. She is a
particularly prolific author with six books, eleven book chapters and 27 articles in
professional journals to her credit. One of her recent works, the 1998 book Essentials
of International Relations is a core book in the new W.W. Norton series. She is
remarkable in that her research spans practical and theoretical work.
Mingst
has received numerous research grants from private, governmental and international
agencies, including the National Science Foundation, two Fulbright Fellowships, a Ford
Foundation Grant, a U.S. Institute of Peace Grant and a Pew Faculty Fellowship at the
Kennedy School of Harvard University.
A
leader in Lexington as well as at the university, Mingst has been recognized as an
Outstanding Teacher, is active on the lecture circuit and has served as a member of the
University Senate.
