The University of Kentucky College of Human Environmental Science was recently
distinguished for its family life education undergraduate programs and received the
Provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) designation from the National Council on
Family Relations. The college is the only one in Kentucky with a CFLE designation and one
of 46 approved undergraduate and graduate programs in the nation. "This
attests to the outstanding quality of our programs and the high education of our
graduates," said Gladys Hildreth, chairperson of the college's Department of Family
Studies.
The
certification verifies that each approved program educates its students in 10 substance
areas families and society, internal dynamics of families, human growth and
development, human sexuality, interpersonal relationships, family resource management,
parent education, family law and public policy, ethics and family life education
methodology.
UK's
program will be recognized for its certification at the council's annual national meeting,
held this year in November in Minneapolis.
The
National Council of Family Relations is a member-funded, non-partisan educational and
professional organization. In addition to member services and programs, it publishes the
Journal of Marriage and Family and Family Relations, among other family research and
education resources.
