May
8, 2000 (Lexington, Ky.) Nearly
3,000 people are expected to participate in the
eighth annual University of Kentucky Staff Appreciation Day from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Friday, May 12 in Memorial Coliseum. Full-
and part-time staff comprise UKs largest employee group. The annual event is organized by UK Womens
Forum, an organization that addresses the challenges of women working at UK.
Staff
Appreciation Day features free food, entertainment, door prizes and other donated gifts. The event also gives staff the opportunity to
learn more about the departments and services at UK.
Various departments are sponsoring more than 55 booths this year.
The event, originally held in the UK Student Center, has grown every year. Last years Staff Appreciation Day attracted
nearly 2,500 people. UK President Charles T.
Wethington Jr. was among those.
I am delighted UK Staff Appreciation Day has become such a popular event on
campus for university employees. UK
Womens Forum has done an excellent job organizing and promoting this event to show
staff members how much we value all their good work, Wethington said.
The
UK Staff Appreciation Day committee is chaired by Laura Holmes-McIntyre with UK Human
Resource Services and Pamella Shaw with the Health Career Programs at the UK Outreach
Center. More information about the event is
available on the Web at www.uky.edu/Staff/Appreciation.
