May
8, 2000 (Lexington, Ky.) The
highly popular plant exchange day -- dubbed "Surge for the Plants" -- will be
held at the University of Kentucky Lexington/Fayette Urban County Government Arboretum
from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The
plant exchange at the arboretum, located on Alumni Drive near Tates Creek Road, allows
gardeners to exchange surplus plants from their homes or landscapes with other Kentucky
gardeners, said Marcia Farris, arboretum director.
"The
plants a person discards when cleaning up and renovating their plantings are frequently
useful to someone else," Farris said. Material
that is exchanged includes seeds, seedlings, saplings, houseplants, aquatic plants and
even gardening tools and supplies.
For
more information about the event, sponsored by the Friends of the Arboretum Education
Committee, call the arboretum office, (859) 257-9339 or (859) 257-6955.
