Nov. 4, 2000 (Lexington, Ky.) Courtney
Reynolds, daughter of Ray and Denise Reynolds of Lexington, and football player Seth
Hanson, son of Scott and Ann Hanson of Dallas, Texas, were crowned the University of
Kentucky homecoming king and queen during halftime ceremonies at the UK-Mississippi State
homecoming game today. Reynolds,
a senior majoring in history at UKs College of Arts and Sciences, is a
Singletary Scholar and a Gaines Fellow.
She also serves as a UK student ambassador, a position that
requires her to participate in a variety of alumni and other events and to tour the state
to urge high school students to consider applying to UK.
I think of myself as a very energetic person, which
is probably why I get involved with different groups at UK. I
have gained leadership experience traveling around the state speaking to high school
students and giving campus tours. I have
utilized the study-abroad programs at UK, and this past summer I lived in Austria.
Reynolds, who was sponsored by Kappa Sigma fraternity, performs
volunteer work with Alzheimers disease patients. She describes the work as a
rewarding experience that has taught me a lot about my grandmothers condition.
Hanson,
a senior majoring in management in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, is a
kicker and three-year starter on UKs football team.
He is president of UKs chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
(FCA)and a member of UK Athletics' Frank G. Ham Society of Character.
Hanson said, I have tried my best to achieve balance
in my life, which has required me to sacrifice excellence in many areas. For example, I
would love to have a higher GPA or volunteer more; however, I know that I would have to
give up some other activity.
I see this position as another platform I can use,
along with football and FCA, to be a role model and to serve my God and the world,
he said.
Hanson was sponsored by Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
