May
21, 2001 (Lexington, Ky.) To
accommodate its ever-increasing audience, a Sunday matinee is being added this year for
the "It's a Grand Night for Singing" program presented by the University of
Kentucky College of Fine Arts, School of Music and UK Opera Theatre. The
dates for this year's program, which will include hits from Tony Award-winning shows, are
June 8 and 9, beginning at 8 p.m., and a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday, June 10.
Tickets
are $18 general admission, $12 for students and $10 for children age 6 and under. The ticket office telephone number is (859)
257-4929. Additionally, for the Friday and Saturday performances, a VIP $50 option on
tickets can be bought which includes preferred seating, reserved parking and a reception.
UK
Voice Professor Everett McCorvey, who has directed Grand Night for the past nine years,
said the Sunday matinee was added because tickets to the popular musical performances
always sell out quickly. "Thats a
grand problem for performers to have."
McCorvey
said the UK School of Music and Opera Theatre students and faculty will be singing
unforgettable hit show tunes from the Tony Award-winning productions of "Guys and
Dolls," "Les Miserables," "The Music Man," "Sound of
Music," "Showboat," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Beauty and the
Beast," "West Side Story" and a host of other Broadway musicals.
