March
20, 2001 (Lexington, Ky.)
University of Kentucky faculty are invited to register
for the tenth annual UK Faculty Tour of the Commonwealth,
May 21-25, an intensive five-day experience enabling
faculty to learn first-hand about Kentucky, its students,
and its diverse populations. In the process, they will
gain personal and professional benefits extending far
beyond the tour. They also gain a deeper appreciation
of the University's teaching, research and land-grant
missions and its commitment to engagements with the
people of Kentucky.
Deadline for applications and accompanying letter of
interest is March 30.
The tour incorporates over 1,000 miles of travel and strong, diverse
experiences to promote professional and personal discovery, broaden the scope and
relevance of one's career, and deepen one's understanding of Kentucky, its students, and
its opportunities and challenges.
An orientation briefing on May 8 will help participants
get acquainted with one another, the University and
the purpose of the tour. Introductory materials
and refreshments will be provided.
Faculty will travel on a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned,
restroom-equipped motor coach with audio/video capability that serves as a traveling
classroom. All meals and snacks will be provided, sampling regional food at historic
establishments and dinning with local citizens.
While tenure-track faculty have
priority, tenured UK faculty are eligible on a space-available
basis. Selection is expected to be highly competitive,
and a committee will review all applications.
Applications are available in the Lexington Campus
Chancellor's Office or by calling 859-257-8428.
Those selected will be notified in mid-April..
