Nov. 8, 2001 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Ashland Inc. Chairman and University of Kentucky Trustee Paul W. Chellgren will deliver the Gatton College of Business and Economics' inaugural Chellgren Lecture at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Room 148 of the Gatton Business and Economics Building.

The lecture is open to the campus community. His topic will be "Leadership in the New Economy."

Chellgren has served as the chairman and CEO of Ashland, the state's largest corporation, for five years. He joined the company in 1974 as executive assistant to the chairman and CEO, and was named senior vice president and group operating officer of Ashland Oil in 1980 and was elected senior vice president and chief financial officer in 1988. In January 1992, he was elected president and chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. He has served on the UK Board of Trustees since 1992.

The lecture will be preceded by an informal coffee and continental breakfast in the Gatton Building atrium at 9 a.m.

In the afternoon, Chellgren will address a class of MBA students and participate in a question and answer session with faculty and graduate students.

Chellgren established the Chellgren Lecture Series endowment earlier this year with a gift to the Gatton College. The series will bring in chief executive officers and other business leaders to address national and state issues confronting corporations and the business community.
