(Lexington, Ky.) -- A new e-mail
newsletter is keeping parents of University of Kentucky students informed about the campus
and its events.
The e-newsletter,
sponsored and produced by the UK Parent Association, was first sent in September to more
than 500 parents of students who attended UK's Summer Advising Conference and Kentucky
Welcome.
The newsletter provides information about
events and university deadlines, informs parents about special services for their students
and helps connect parents from all across the state.
The newsletter also invites parents to ask
questions of the university or make comments by sending an e-mail to the Parent
Association.
"Responding promptly to parents will
help to build a positive relationship between the parent and UK," said Laura Hibbard,
UK's assistant director of New Student Programs and the coordinator of the Parent
Association.
"Many parents want and need a way to
stay involved with their sons and daughters after they come to college. Many parents have
commented that the one-on-one nature of the e-mails gives them a personal connection with
campus and makes them feel that someone cares about them."
New students' parents will be added to the
e-mail listserve as they arrive each semester and will remain on the listserve for four
years, Hibbard said. Parents can stay on the listserve for additional time by e-mailing
the Parent Association and requesting to be retained.
Any UK parent can request
that they be added to the list at any time. To be
added, contact Laura Hibbard at lrasnic@uky.edu.
