(Lexington, Ky.) -- The public
is invited to hear John J. Mearsheimer, a University of Chicago political scientist and
author of "The Tragedy of Great Power Politics," lecture on his new book at 8
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the auditorium of the William T. Young Library on the campus of
the University of Kentucky.
Mearsheimer
will present his argument about why international politics remains fraught with peril
despite the end of the Cold War.
"Given the events of Sept. 11,
Mearsheimer's view of international politics seems even more compelling," said
Michael Desch, associate director of the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International
Commerce, which is sponsoring Mearsheimer's appearance.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
