Oct.
18, 2001 (Lexington, Ky.) --
A group of University of Kentucky Greek students and
their adviser have been named the best in their field
by the National Panhellenic Conference. UK Panhellenic,
the coordinating body for 15 of UK sororities, was
awarded the National Panhellenic Conference Overall
Excellence Award and the Scholarship Award in the
over 10 chapter category.
The
Excellence Award recognizes true Panhellenism on the
college campus. It is awarded to college Panhellenics
whose achievements and programs have best developed
fraternity loyalties and friendships, confidence in
one another and mutual respect and helpfulness.
The
Scholarship Award recognizes outstanding scholarship
programming in a college Panhellenic that enhances
the academic mission of the university through scholarship
education.
UK
Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Fraternity
and Sorority Affairs Susan West advises Panhellenic
and UK's sororities. She was presented with the Outstanding
Greek Adviser Award, given to only one person in each
biennium.
"I
am extremely proud of our students' accomplishments
and of their continuing success," West said. "I was
surprised I had been nominated for the adviser award.
I do my job because I enjoy it and love working with
the students."
UK
Panhellenic continues to be the most decorated in
the nation, receiving the College Panhellenic Committee
Recruitment Award in 1999 and 1991, the Progress Award
in 1995 and the Overall Excellence Award in 1997,
among others.
West and UK Panhellenic were recognized at the National
Panhellenic Conference Awards and Centennial Celebration
held Oct. 6 in Tuscon, Ariz.
