Moment
of Silence -- From
8:45 to 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, the University
of Kentucky will observe a moment of silence in respect
to the previous Tuesday's tragic terrorists attacks
on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the
Pennsylvania plane crash. The observation was suggested
by the Kentucky Board of Student Body Presidents and
has been endorsed by the Council on Postsecondary
Education.
Remembrance
Wall at UK --The
University of Kentucky Student Government has erected
a Remembrance Wall on the Student Center patio. Members
of the UK community can leave messages on the wall.
This weekend, the Kentucky State Board of Student
Body Presidents passed a resolution that each public
university would establish a similar wall on their
campuses. When filled, the walls will be linked together
and put on public display at the State Capitol in
Frankfort. UK Student Government is working toward
making New York City the final destination of the
walls.
College
of Communication and Information Studies Recognition
Dinner Postponed:
A special dinner scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14, at
the King Alumni House, where special awards were to
be presented to outstanding faculty, staff and alumni
of the College of Communication and Information Studies,
has been postponed. The new date will be announced.
Sanders-Brown
Dinner Postponed: A
Sanders-Brown Center on Aging Foundation dinner set
for Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Marriott's Griffin
Gate Resort has been postponed. The legendary actress
Lauren Bacall was scheduled to be the special guest
speaker at the dinner.
Cawood Ledford
Memorial Postponed: The
Cawood Ledford Memorial Service, scheduled for Thursday,
Sept. 13, at Rupp Arena has been postponed. It has
not been rescheduled at this time.
Counseling Services
Available: Free
counseling services to anyone in the community who
wants help in dealing with the trauma brought about
by yesterday's catastrophic news is being offered
through the University of Kentucky Family Center,
telephone (859) 257-7755. UK employees can receive
the same counseling service through UK Refer, call
(859) 257-1467. Students seeking counseling services
should call (859) 257-8701.
