29, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Mike
Nietzel, acting provost for the University of Kentucky,
presented the 2002 Provost's Awards for Outstanding
Teaching on April 26 in a ceremony and reception at
the UK Hilary J. Boone Center.
The criteria
used to select the honorees are qualities of dedication,
imagination, creativity, inspiration and concern for
students from individuals who demonstrate high aspirations
and superior promise in the art and science of teaching
and advising undergraduate and/or graduate students.
Nietzel
said the university's teachers are empowering UK students
to compete as never before at the national level.
Quoting
Henry Adams, Nietzel said, "A teacher affects eternity."
The awards
carry stipends of $5,000, $3,500 and $1,000 respectively
for tenured, non-tenured and teaching assistant categories.
