April 29, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Mike Nietzel, acting provost for the University of Kentucky, presented the 2002 Provost's Awards for Outstanding Teaching on April 26 in a ceremony and reception at the UK Hilary J. Boone Center.

The criteria used to select the honorees are qualities of dedication, imagination, creativity, inspiration and concern for students from individuals who demonstrate high aspirations and superior promise in the art and science of teaching and advising undergraduate and/or graduate students.

Nietzel said the university's teachers are empowering UK students to compete as never before at the national level.

Quoting Henry Adams, Nietzel said, "A teacher affects eternity."
