April 24, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) -- Applications are being accepted for the summer and fall Elsie Bourke Ewing Faculty Grants, which support research related to service learning at the University of Kentucky.

The awards of up to $500 also may be provided to graduate and undergraduate students conducting research if they have a faculty sponsor involved in the project.

The deadline for application is April 29, and recipients will be announced by May 13.

Applications should include a short overview of the project, and a statement of issues, objectives, planned activities, expected outcomes and a brief budget narrative estimating the cost of the project. Proposals should be no more than three pages in length. The Service-Learning Initiatives Council advisory board will select the recipients based on the perceived impact of the projects and its potential for expanding and improving the use of service-learning at UK.

The award is sponsored by the UK Service-Learning Initiatives Council and the Office of Experiential Education.

For additional information, contact Louise Stone, Office of Experiential Education, at (859) 257-3632.
