Jan.
17, 2002 (Lexington, Ky.) --
The Cincinnati Zoo will bring its cat show to the
University of Kentucky at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26,
in Memorial Hall. The family-fun event is free and
open to the public.
The show
will feature performances by a Canadian lynx and his
friend anatolian shepherd, a cheetah, housecats, an
ocelot, guard dogs and more.
UK student
and former Cincinnati Zoo intern David Hutchinson
undertook bringing the show to UK, using the new Coalition
Grant program offered by UK Student Government.
"I am
very interested in our environment and wanted to find
a way to get others interested," Hutchinson said.
"The Coalition Grant was perfect opportunity to do
that and meet Student Government's goal of bringing
student groups together to work on common goals."
Hutchinson
brought several groups together to sponsor this event,
including UK Green Thumb, Campus Girl Scouts, UK Students
for the Green Party, the Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals, the UK Pre-Vet Club, the United
Federation of Sidewalk Chalkers and Pi Sigma Phi and
Phi Alpha Theta service fraternities.
The event
also will feature a service fair in the lobby of Memorial
Hall to provide information about service and volunteering
to UK students and others.
